Semi-hermetic and open drive reciprocating compressors for refrigeration and industrial applications
BITZER semi-hermetic and open drive reciprocating compressors cover a wide capacity range and are designed for efficient operation in commercial refrigeration, industrial cooling, and heat pump systems. They deliver high cooling capacity, even under part-load conditions, and allow flexible system design.
The portfolio supports natural refrigerants such as CO₂ (R744), ammonia (NH₃), and hydrocarbons, as well as low-GWP HFC/HFO refrigerants, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and future-proof operation.
With the integrated IQ MODULE IQ MODUL , compressors can be monitored and controlled precisely, enabling capacity control, system optimization, and reliable performance. This allows engineers and operators to select, compare, and integrate the right compressor technology for each application.
Reciprocating Compressors for CO2 (R744)
CO₂ (R744) is a future-proof refrigerant with negligible ozone depletion potential and very low global warming potential. It is widely used in commercial and industrial refrigeration systems, especially in transcritical and subcritical applications.
BITZER reciprocating compressors for CO₂ are designed for high operating pressures and enable reliable and efficient system operation. They can be combined in booster and cascade systems and support scalable system design.
Typical applications include:
- Low- and medium-temperature refrigeration
- Air conditioning and heat recovery systems
- Large heat pumps
Displacement at 50 Hz:
- Transcritical applications: 3 to 99 m3/h
- Subcritical applications: 1 to 199 m3/h
Reciprocating compressors for hydrocarbons (R290, R1270, R600a)
Hydrocarbon refrigerants such as propane (R290), propene (R1270) and isobutane (R600a) are natural, halogen-free, and offer very low global warming potential. Their excellent thermodynamic properties make them suitable for a wide range of refrigeration and heat pump applications.
BITZER reciprocating compressors for hydrocarbons are designed for safe and efficient operation. Due to increased system tightness in accordance with EN 1127-1, no ATEX zone is required around the component.
Typical applications include:
- Commercial refrigeration
- Process cooling
- Air conditioning
- Heat pumps
Displacement at 50 Hz:
- 4 to 221 m3/h
Reciprocating Compressors for NH3/Ammonia (R717)
Ammonia (R717) has been used in industrial refrigeration for decades and offers high efficiency with zero ozone depletion and no direct global warming impact.
BITZER open drive reciprocating compressors for NH₃ are designed for robust and reliable operation in demanding environments. With flexible drive options (coupling or belt), they support large-scale systems and industrial processes such as:
- Commercial refrigeration
- Process cooling
- Air conditioning
- Marine operation
Displacement at 1450/min:
- 1-stage: 19 to 151 m3/h
- 2-stage:
Reciprocating Compressors for HFC/HFO
When it comes to HFC and HFO refrigerants, variants with a low global warming potential are becoming increasingly important. All BITZER reciprocating compressors are designed for refrigerants with a low GWP – for safety classes A1 and A2L, depending on the model.
The ECOLINE reciprocating compressors set the standard for applications using synthetic refrigerants and are suitable for:
- Commercial refrigeration
- Low- and medium-temperature cooling
- Heat pumps
- Marine operation
- Special applications
Displacement at 50 Hz:
4 to 221 m3/h
